This article has been tested to work with the following products and versions. No guarantee of compatibility, with or without modification, is offered for products or versions other than those listed.
NOTE: As of the time of this writing, v4.60 of the SetPoint software is available from Logitech, which appears to correct the issue described below by properly completing a full uninstall.
If you installed the Logitech SetPoint software for a mouse, and then later decide that you don't want to use that software and uninstall it, you might find that changes you make to the mouse settings via the Windows Control Panel are lost when you restart your computer. This can be especially annoying for those who have to configure their mouse for left-handed use every time they restart.
The issue stems from Logitech's uninstaller failing to completely cleanup everything it installed. If you are experiencing this issue, the following will help you resolve it.

Identify that SetPoint is still being run

First, let's verify that the SetPoint software is still being run. We're pretty sure it is, but this process gives us additional information we need to resolve the issue.
  1. Choose Run from the Start menu.
  2. Type msconfig, and then press Enter.
  3. On the Startup tab, click the Manufacturer column heading to sort by that column.
  4. Locate Logitech Inc. in the list, as show in Screenshot 1.
This identifies a few things:
  1. Logitech SetPoint is still being loaded at startup.
  2. The offending file is named KHALMNPR.EXE.
  3. The offending file is being loaded in the registry at HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.
Now that we are armed with this information, we can close the System Configuration dialog box and do resolve the issue.

Prevent SetPoint from being loaded at startup

While you could simply have cleared the check box for the Logitech SetPoint startup item in the System Configuration dialog box, doing so will cause Windows, at each startup, to warn yout hat you have made changes using System Configuration, as shown in Screenshot 2. True, you have the option to disable that warning, but doing so prevents you from being properly warned of other such modifications, so let's avoid that option.
If you don't disable future warnings, the System Configuration application will be launched when you click OK. As both options are undesirable, let's skip clearing the check box, and use the Registry Editor to remove Logitech SetPoint from the list of software to be run at startup.
